How to display date on blog page?

    In index.php file is code:

    < ?php echo get_the_date('j');?>

    < ?php echo get_the_date('M');?>

    but it don’t display the date. Blog page displays only: j M

    Eg: http://2b.romanska.webd.pl/blog/

    Please, give some tips how to fix it. Thanks!!

    PS I added the date before author name but it is not good solution for long term. Not working date (j M) just do not looks good :)
