Landing page without Header and Footer

We want to create our own Template to make landing pages. There are some pre-defined templates, but they are not what we are looking for. We need a page without header and footer being loaded. Normally you can create a template in the theme folder and Worpress will pick this up. But that doesn’t work. Is it possible to get this done and what would be the best way?
