in the Savia theme I would like to add a new button in the Header (possibly next to the field “Search…”) to access and sign up to the site.
It’s possible?
If so, how do you recommend editing the theme?

Sure, you can override the header.php template in your child theme and modify anything in it that you want, you can harcode a button link wherever you need, obviously some styling would be needed too! :)
