I had originally customized the site so that the responsive layout did not automatically load for mobile use. This was years ago. It seems the new theme overwrote this change.
Could you tell me what to do to stop the responsive pages from loading?

If you made your changes in a child theme then this shouldn’t be an issue.
What do you mean by “to stop the responsive pages”? All pages load normally no matter the device, and images should be scalable in mobile devices…
