A grid system works by dividing the screen into equal size grids, thus allowing easy to manipulate uniform units for division/defining columns. The full width in the Skeleton CSS framework is divided into 16 grids. From there on you can create columns that are multiples of these 16 grids.
Basically the total number of grid units in 1 row must be 16. Here’s where the confusion comes in – these grid units are called “columns”. So for example you can define 2 columns on your page, 1 being “four columns” and the 2nd being “twelve columns” (just like the case with my normal page + sidebar)! That makes them 1 – 1/4 of the full width (4/16) and the second – 3/4 (12/16).

http://www.getskeleton.com/#grid

Checkout the shortcode examples in the dropdown and the codes they create.
Having said this, 5 columns with equal widths would be a challenge to create as they are not multiple of 16. You could do 3 on a row and 2 on another row, or do 5×2 columns, then another columns of 6 columns…

In a page+sidebar template you are left with 12 column to work with (as 4 of the 16 are used for the sidebar). What are you trying to do, split those into 4 more columns? You can do so by adding 4 columns each of them “three columns” wide, that way you will have 4×3 = 12.

Let me know what exactly you are trying to achieve and I will do my best to help you out.
