Hello
I am sorry for asking the similar question. But i am new to wordpress so therefore asking. During Demo Content import at step 3 after clicking on submit according to the documentation. The browser started loading then after a while it stopped. So i reloaded it, maybe i shouldn’t have. And there was a warning saying that the information will be resend. I did it. Then it started loading and stopped at a blank page.
Then i pressed back. The following error was given on the screen :

http://i.imgur.com/7phnB1X.png

Note : This error came when i pressed back button because after submitting import the screen starts loading then stopped and was blank white nothing showing.

Something i would like to note. In your doc about deleting demo imported files from \wp-content\uploads. Sorry for the silly question but where is \wp-content\uploads . I mean i haven’t download anything from wordpress. I basically bought hosting service from godaddy then installed wordpress there and it took me to the wordpress admin panel and i uploaded the theme. Is there someway to delete the demo without downloading anything. I mean like from the website admin dashboard. Or do i have to download something from wordpress to solve these problems. As i noticed you told in the doc to change max execution time in php.in file. But i am using wordpress from website. I am abit confused. Please help me.

By the way, some of the images seem to have uploaded in my site. But there is no menu or anything.

If you would like to see the site to understand the problem then i can give you a link.

Hi there,

Yes, what you are describing is exactly the case where your server’s limited resources block the whole content from being imported. Either the timeout or the memory limit were reached and then the blank screen. To your questions… You need to use an FTP client (FileZilla or WinSCP for example) in order to connect to your hosting space.
In there you will see your WordPress installation. The “\wp-content\uploads” dir is inside the WordPress installation folder. IF you send me some temp FTP credentials to your hosting I can check that for you and further help you should you have a problem finding it, I am sure you will get it though.
As stated here in the bottom:

http://blueowlcreative.com/docs/fortuna/#installation3

You can use the Reset DB plugin then remove the images up to where they got uploaded (it’s not required but recommended) and then start over. The thing is you will get the same result, it will finish prematurely …
What you need to do next (after cleaning up the latest unfinished installation) is try increasing those directives shown below (on that same documentation page).
They should be placed in a php.ini file in the root folder of the WP installation.

Since you are a beginner I would recommend asking your hosting provider to assist you with this, explain to them that you only need to import a Demo and they should increase temporarily your limits. Let me know how it goes so I can further help you along the way!

Ok sorry to repeat let me go abit step by step:

1. I don’t have much idea about FTP client. I believe i will search youtube for filezilla wordpress tutorial. Basically to know how it works? If you already know of any tutorial that can be of help to the beginners then i will appreciate it.

2. After solving the ftp issue should i troubleshoot just like mentioned in the doc. I mean by going “\wp-content\uploads”. Or ask the hosting provider for help.

3. You mentioned giving you ftp credential. I have hosted in godaddy, so should i give the credentials of the site? Can i somehow check the limit from their site? Or do i have to get filezilla to solve these problems.

I am quite new to all these and i am still trying to figure things out.

Thanks.

Another question if the demo seems too troublesome for now due to size issue. Can i directly move on to setting up my site without uploading the demo instead? As my site may not contain so many pages at the very start. And things will be uploaded gradually.

I will still try to solve the demo issue.

Sure:

1. Basically an FTP client lets you manage your remote files on your hosting.

2. Install the Reset DB plugin, reset your DB using it and remove the files (via the FTP). This whole thing is simply to get rid of the data that got imported halfway…

3. By FTP credentials I mean – user & password. Once you buy a hosting you should get your FTP account with it, so you can manage your files or your hosting.

Another Question: Sure you can! That’s a good idea. What’s an even better idea is to install a local webserver on your computer – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MsMaiHqkKkQ
Then you can work locally and you shouldn’t have the trouble with limited hosting as you can fully manage your server’s restrictions on your own computer. Then once you are finished with your site you can migrate to the actual live server (on your hosting).

Thanks for the information. I will see if i can solve the issue. I believe i have purchased a silly hosting service while trying to look for ftp information. I have purchased the new managed wordpress service. And they say “These accounts have WordPress installed and do not provide access to a control panel.”

Really regretting. Lets see what i can do.

I have deleted the files in wp-content/upload. It has some folder with name 2015, 2014, revslider, js_comp… I have deleted all the subfolders. Later i logged in ftp server again. And i found that they are still there. So i have deleted the second time. I didnt quite understand.
I would have given you a temporary ftp credentials. But this new hosting service doesn’t allow changing ftp password for some weird reasons. I am planning to migrate to other package.

But was i suppose to delete these files?

You deleted the files but you prolly haven’t reset your DB, that’s where the references to those images still exist, reset the DB as well and you are ready to start fresh.
Have you tried anything on the php.ini file yet?
