So you want fixed sized boxes? Are you using the portfolio grid element?
Under the Design TAB you have a checkbox – Fixed Image Size.

I would like fixed size boxes and have them aligned and not masonry style. The “fixed image size” is checked for portfolio grid but is not an option for post grid?? I would like the layout to look and operate like your example in the theme preview:
