However, when I load up the page the default sidebar still show no matter what sidebar I select the default always show on the page

Any ideas.

Just fixed it for you. IT’s a bug that was recently discovered and appears only on pages with portfolio carousels and custom sidebars, a fix will be included in the next theme update as well. Cheers! :)

I’ve created a custom sidebar and even after I’ve selected it in the layout sidebar, it’s not showing up.

If you have the portfolio carousel shortcode on the page then this will help you:
Edit your shortcodes.php and after this line:

$projects = get_portfolio_items($max_items, $order_by);

Add this after it:

wp_reset_query();

You are using some different sidebar functionality for sidebars than the Aqua default.
In aqua you create your sidebars under Theme->Options, then add widgets to them, then once you have selected the Page Content + Sidebar template for your page you need to select the newly created sidebar under “Layout” below the page content. Try that out instead of your method … :)
