External links on drop-down menu?

Is it possible to have a menu item on the drop-down menu, which is actually an external link, rather than a page on the site?

Sure, simply use the CUSTOM LINK option under MENU….

Thank you again for your helpfulness. I am able to create an external link, but the link appears in the main menu, and I would like it to appear under one of the drop-down menu options… is that possible?

Actually… I think I figured it out. Correct me if I’m wrong about this:

Either I assign a specific menu to the drop-down menu, or it automatically draws from the hierarchy of pages that I’ve created. In other words, if I want to add an external link to my main drop-down menu, I have to re-create the hierarchy of pages in the form of a menu. Is that right?

It’s menu items that you add to any Menu. A custom link can go both in the top level navigation as well as below one (in the submenu). Depends on how you organize your menu (with drag and drop you manage the levels). And yes, if you are talking about creating a custom menu – yes, you can organize your pages in it anyway you please, but it also gives you full flexibility!
