Header and footer colums

Is there an easy way to do three columns on the header and footer? I tried deleted one widget on the footer but it doesn’t seem I can do that. Also, my portfolio isn’t appearing like the portfolio in the live demo. Am I missing a plugin or just dumb? Thanks. Chris

Hi Chris,

For the header and footer – you can override the header.php and footer.php templates from the parent theme in your child theme and change the structure of the columns there! The full width of the wrapper is sixteen columns, so half (or 2 columns) would be “eight columns” + “eight columns”.

The footer as you can see is split into 4 “four columns”.
Doing it in 3 columns you can do “column one-third” – that creates a 1/3rd column!

As for your portfolio, not sure what you mean… Can I see your URL please?

In other words nothing appears. If I change the template to any of the other options (like default, full, etc), images appear, but the filter disappears.

I don’t think you changed your footer.php template, it’s still “four columns” showing in your code. Check my reply above to see how to override the templates (the actual files, not changing template when editing a page) in your child theme and change the columns. You need to copy the footer.php file from the parent theme into your Child theme and make changes to the file as described in my previous post.

Thanks so much, that helped me figure it out. Is there a place where I can adjust the photos to be vertical instead of horizontal?

Hi again,

Yes, you can change the size of the thumbnails the theme generates.
It’s this line in your functions.php file:

add_image_size('portfolio-medium', 460, 290, true);

You can change the dimensions of the thumbs used then Regenerate all thumbnails via this plugin: https://wordpress.org/plugins/regenerate-thumbnails/
