You mean version 5.2?
We tested it and it works fine with the theme. Maybe something else is causing the 500 error. You could check the server logs to find out more.

I see, you must be using an old theme version, you can either update your theme version or replace this line in your functions.php:
vc_set_template_dir($vc_res_dir);
with this:
vc_set_shortcodes_templates_dir($vc_res_dir);
