The only problem we are experiencing is that the slider is not there.

We have checked the plugins directory but can’t see anything resembling a slider there, no post categories or slider images / text. Had a look in Theme customizations but it makes no mention of the slider.

Is there some PHP we need to add to a particular template in order to have it display?

We are currently using a static front page and we don’t see any shortcodes for the slider either (if that is how you are implementing it).

Have you installed it yet?
Installing the revolution slider plugin is separate from the them installation setup. You will find a version of the slider in the package, I am sending you the latest version right now though so you can install that instead. Then you can import the Demo sliders or create your own. :)
