I read the other posts about updating the Aqua theme. Still some questions before taking the big plunge.

Will I lose all the customizations I’ve made in the Theme Options menu? If not, do I still need to use Winmerge? I haven’t made any direct .css or .php changes in the editor.

How do I update just the files (noted in documentation) without removing the Aqua 2.0 theme first from WP? I can’t just upload the new zip folders that I downloaded from ThemeForest?

Thank you in advance! Sorry I’m so dense. Just don’t want to lose all my hard work.

Hi again,

No will not lose the data you have previously entered, nor the Theme Options.
You can upload the files 1 by 1 from the updated list via your FTP manager, or upload all files and overwrite the current ones.
What I would definitely recommend though is still installing a Backup plugin to be on the safe side!

Well, still not working right. I updated the following files through my hosting company’s File Manager in the exact locations:
shortcodes.php
theme-options.php
aqua.common.js
customcodes.js
style.css

I also updated revslider plugin through WP dash/plugins. Now, the revslider no longer works. I re-uploaded the older revslider plugin – still no work. I even uploaded the older files above from my Aqua 2.0 version. (Basically backing out of my steps I did prior.) – still no work.

I have a backup from yesterday that I’ll restore to, but not sure what I’m doing wrong with this Aqua 2.1 update process.

I am not sure what you did either… and what exactly do you mean by “no work”? Do you get any errors? What’s your URL so I can take a look!

I currently have a backup version installed, so you can’t see the problems.

RevSlider doesn’t work when I update the files noted above. No error messages occur. It just shows the revslider shortcode where the slider should be.

well… did you check the slider name, the shortcode shows when either the slider plugin is not installed or no slider with this name can be found.

Lol. You do have a sense of humor. Yes, checked all that. However, I was able to update everything just fine yesterday. I had to manually remove the theme from the server (WP wasn’t enabling me to do that through the dashboard), then installed 2.1 through the dash. I also created a child theme this time – not sure I needed to do that – but I was trying everything. Rev Slider also updated just fine. Never had to change the shortcode or slider name.

Also – I just got word through my security plugin Wordfence that Rev Slider had a vulnerability in its older versions. You may already know this, but info was emailed to me on 9/3/14:

“A commercial plugin called Slider Revolution had a vulnerability which was fixed in February. Many themes rely on this plugin and are using old versions of Slider Revolution which has left sites vulnerable to the exploit. Attacks on the old version of Slider Revolution are now being seen in the wild.

The vulnerability lets a hacker download any file from your system including your wp-config.php file which contains database passwords and other sensitive data.”

Thanks for all your help, once again.

Great, glad to hear all is well now, the version that goes with the theme is a later one than the one with the vulnerability, still if you want the absolute latest please let me know I will mail it your way!
