I could give you some hints on where to start, yes. First off overwrite your header.php in your Child theme as you would be putting stuff in it. Then you need to edit it and add the code for your custom widget there, I assume it will need some CSS/JS you can also add those to your child theme if needed. Hope this helps some. :)
