Sure, first off make sure you have the plugin Fortuna Portfolio CPT installed:

then setup your portfolio items:

http://blueowlcreative.com/docs/fortuna/#portfolio1

Your items should then automatically start populating your portfolio carousels. :)

Its possible that I am doing something wrong, because the tutorial on the docs isn’t clear to me, I must confess.

I’ve tried adding some images to it and added the portfolio carousel element:

But the page is completely blank:

Also, I don’t want to have these items in a separate page, is it possible for the portfolio to be in a section at home?

The screenshot you have shown above is from editing a single portfolio item. The images you add there are for this particular item only (when using the gallery mode).
A portfolio carousel lists several portfolio items at once in a carousel.
The images shown for each individual item in your carousel is the featured image you have set for each particular item. Make sure you set a featured image for each portfolio item so it shows in a carousl.
