I have adjusted the code to have a black background in the CSS but when it is viewed in Tablet and Mobile size it reverts back to white – can you tell me how to amend this?

You could swap to dark header in mobile by adding this to your custom css in Theme options, or your child theme CSS file:

    background: #1A1A1A!important;

It would be great to not have to do this – maybe you could look at being able to pick the header colours in the theme options in future updates.
