I am looking for the home page templates, and presumably I have to upload the demo content. But when I tried to upload it before and used that “wordpress database reset” plugin you suggested, I deleted my entire database. I have a working, existing site, and a lot of these instructions seemed to be geared toward someone creating a new site from scratch. It would be helpful to have things clearly identified as “things that will erase your whole site – beware” or “it’s okay to run this without erasing your whole site.”

Anyway, I want to upload the demo content, but I just want to verify: can I do this and not overwrite, delete or otherwise damage my existing site?

Thanks.

I struggled with the same thing. I got the demo content uploaded eventually after my hosting company made some changes to the php.ini file.

Technically you are supposed to load demo data to a testing server and never to your actual production server. Lots of small businesses do not have that luxury. You are also supposed to only review the demo pages on a test server and then use them in assistance to add them to a production site. (Otherwise all those demo pages are on your production site). You can easily copy a page by selecting all its code in the classic mode, then switch to visual composer mode to make some tweaks. You can also disable or delete demo pages from your production site if you did load the demo content there, which is what I will be doing.

Hi there,

Sure, Import your content freely over whatever you have currently existing!
The WP reset plugin is advised to be used if you are to run the import again in order to avoid duplication and yes, you are correct it clears all WP content as stated in the plugin’s description.

@ddualba, I couldn’t describe it better… ! Thanks for the info and feedback!
