For some reason today, the theme will not let me upload any images, jpeg or png.
2. how do I change the background color of the dropdown menu. I changed the default color in dashboard>appearance>customize but the color is still the default aqua green color.

Indeed, confirmed, I get the same.
Please contact your system admin (hosting provider) and ask them to check the error log for you as well as the user rights of the directories where files are being uploaded.
This is a system error that is not theme related and they should easily find the problem :)

I googled it and there are many having this problem. I think I need to find a plugin to upload images. If you know of one that would be great. I’ve been looking and can’t really find one that has been tested with the current version.

No way you would need a plugin for the regular WordPress file upload, the error is an indication that something is wrong in your server setup and you should address this first.
Speak to your hosting provider and kindly ask them to inspect the issue for you, it would take them minutes to figure it out.

I had them reduce security levels and permissions. Maybe you can find some credence in the article?

2. So were you able to look into the problem I’m having with the default color? my nav menu dropdowns still have the aqua green color that is Fortuna’s default.

Well i’d rather we fix the Core issue first (1) as there’s a good chance that it is the reason for problem 2. This is in no way related to the theme.. you can swap to the default theme and try to upload an image – same error. At this point your hosting should investigate and tell you what the error logs say, its a server setting error and it’s unacceptable that their server wouldn’t let you upload a file on a simple WP installation!
Call them again and explain to them that you have a basic WP installation and you cannot upload files, ask them for help and if they are a proper company they should help out. :)

I’ll call hosting company again.
so Kal, thanks for your efforts to help me with the image uploader issue. Would you be able to help me with the default color issue? I can’t get rid of that aqua color. I changed the color appearance >themes >customize but it doesn’t change the background color for dropdowns in navigation menu.

I simply changed your color there to the one you set for your theme color and saved. :)
