I wrote before and then read about having to beef up both the Execution Time and Memory Limit. I called Hostgator and was told they could up the Mem Limit to 256 but none of their shared accounts allow for more than 30 Execution Time. He said I could do this with a Dedicated (which I can’t afford each month) account.

I had him up Mem Limit and then tried again but had no luck at all. Only a handful of Media files are uploaded. Is there another way around this to get the demo data live (which I definitely need) or does having a shared hosting account eliminate me from being able to use this theme (which I really hope isn’t the case)

Thanks in advance for your reply, eagerly waiting to hear back.

I tried a second time through Live Chat and same brick wall. They gave me this link to their policies on what PHP settings can be changed. So this would mean that anyone using Hostgator Shared wouldn’t be able to use this theme (at least with demo content that most of us need) unless you have another way for us to get the content uploaded.

http://support.hostgator.com/articles/pre-sales-policies/php-settings-that-cannot-be-changed

I am really, really, really, hoping you have another answer for that. I would be horribly saddened if I am not able to use this theme. I looked forever before setting on this one and would hate to have to trade it in and start over. Please have some good news for me?

Thanks again!

Hi there,

Sorry to hear that, but don’t get disappointed easily.
First off – yes, I understand shared hosting policies, what I do is I call my hosting company and ask them to bump up the limits temporarily so that the import can be done, even a better option would be to send them the file and ask them to kindly import it for you. By the way you mention the mem limit increase didn’t cut it, did they also increase the timeout limit as stated here at the bottom?

http://blueowlcreative.com/docs/fortuna/#installation3

Raising those should do the trick 90% of the time and if they absolutely won’t assist you with the matter I would simply pick working on a testing environment with the Demo (on a localhost on your own computer) and then when finished or when setting up some of the pages you will actually need only then migrate to your production environment. You won’t need all of the demo pages/images anyway on your production server, it’s only meant for playing around with sample content layouts etc.

Hope that helps, if there’s anything else I can assist with surely let me know!

I did ask if they would increase the timeout too but they will not under any circumstances on Hostgator. I called in, then went through live chat, then called in again asked for manager/admin. They created an admin ticket for me:

This ticket has been created for our systems administrators to address the issue escalated from frontline support. If you have any additional information please let us know. We will get back to you as soon as possible.

Description of Problem:
Customer needs to increase the maximum max_input_time up to 180 seconds for about five minutes inorder to use xml importer. The customer understands we have a limit on shared server/resellers but he insists he has been our customer for 6 years and he can’t switch to a VPS/Dedi just to user the xml importer in WordPress one time for a few minutes. Customer has also read on multiple forums online that he can request his hosting provider to temporarily increase the time. Luke, the supervisor advised to create this ticket inorder to assist the customer is setting that said limit for a few minutes.

But then came back and said they still couldn’t do it. So they suck I guess. I have never tried working on a localhost but after Googling it this morning it looks like something I may be able to figure out and will try today.

How does that work? Will I make the site pages on the localhost and then use the Export Tool to create XML file and then import to the site on Hostgator?

Thanks so much for your help, I know it isn’t your fault I have a crappy hosting company. I have had same account with them for seven years, you think they would be willing to help me for a few minutes but I guess not. So word of wise to anyone shopping for hosting accounts, Hostgator is not recommended.

Ok, I was able to get a localhost setup on my computer but I am running into an issue trying to install the theme to this local setup. I am getting this error and not sure what to do about it:

Warning: POST Content-Length of 13657194 bytes exceeds the limit of 8388608 bytes in Unknown on line 0
Are you sure you want to do this?

How do I fix this to continue? Thanks.

Sorry, I was trying to see how to delete the last post but guess I can’t. In case someone else runs across this I figured out I could just copy and paste the extracted theme folder into the wp-content/themes folder and that worked fine. New to this method.

Hi again,

So did you manage to get things setup on your localhost?
You may most likely need to increase those same values in your PHP.ini file.
The error you were getting is due to the fact that by default the webserver is set to accept upload up to 8mb file size. You can increase that in your php.ini as well like so:

memory_limit = 512M
max_execution_time = 180
upload_max_filesize = 50M
post_max_size = 50M
max_input_vars = 6000

These should be sufficient for you to import the Demo.
Let me know how it goes and if you need further help.

After plodding along a little I was able to get everything up and live. The theme is beautiful and the demo data is flawless and fantastic.

I appreciate your great support, wish Hostgator had been as good as you are. It will take me a bit to learn the visual composer but that looks excellent too.

Thanks again

I’ve bought at least 15 themes from Theme Forest over the years and I have to say this is the best of them all by far. It is stunning visually and the amount of Demo Data that you have built and include is robust for sure. It blows away what other authors provide. I am very excited to use it and will be recommending it for future clients so I will be buying some more licenses in the future for sure.
