How to show excerpts in blog homepage?

Please, in your demo (http://blueowlcreative.com/wp/aqua/blog/) you show excerpts in blog homepage.
I tried to do the same, I edit the index.php page and I replace < ?php the_content(); ?> to < ?php the_excerpt(); ?> .
It works, but at the and of the excerpts there is this: [...].
What is this? Can I remove it?
